Tanning Tips
All waxing, sugaring, manicure and pedicure services should be done 24 hours before your airbrush tan appointment. Please shave the day prior to your appointment. Take a shower and exfoliate using an oil-free scrub along with an exfoliating mitt the day prior to your appointment. It is imperative to remove product buildup, body oils and dead skin cells in order to allow the DHA in the spray tan solution to react with the amino acids in your skin. The spray tan will not develop 100% if any barriers are on the skin. I highly recommend our exfoliant and mitt for best possible results. Your skin will glow! Please avoid any bar soaps, Dove, Olay, CeraVe, products before and after tanning. Please do not shower right before your appointment as the heat/steam will open your pores and can adversely affect the tan by not allowing total absorption of the tanning solution. If you must shower the day of your tan, be sure to do so with cool water only a minimum of 4 hours before your appointment. Avoid using any soap, shaving cream or exfoliating products, as this will alter your ph levels.
Please do not apply any lotion, oils, perfume, make-up or deodorant.Female clients may tan in a bathing suit, undergarment or nude. Male clients must wear an undergarment or bathing suit. Whatever you decide to wear will get solution on it so make sure it is dark.
Wear dark, loose fitting clothing and loose flip-flops. I recommend wearing a maxi dress or loose fitting pants to avoid skin being exposed to your car seat, etc. No jeans, tight fitting clothes, sports bras, socks or running shoes until after your first rinse. Rainy day? Make sure to wear a jacket with a hood, loose pants, an umbrella and shoes that cover your feet but aren’t tight.Do not get wet in any way BEFORE your first rinse. Avoid the following right after being sprayed: rain, washing your hands and face, working out, any water activities, perspiring, and skin on skin contact such as crossing your legs. These activities are fine after your first rinse.Do not worry if you notice dark areas around the creases of your neck, underarms elbows and knees. Please do not rub because these are just the initial bronzers that will blend in completely after showering. Also, do not worry if your underarms or neck have a green tint to them. This is just the DHA in the solution reacting with any deodorant or sweat that was left on your body. The green tint will wash away after your first rinse.
Please follow the recommended wait times for your first rinse. Your tan will continue to develop over the next 24 hours so please do not use any type of body wash or moisturizer until 24 hours after your initial rinse. Using body products too soon can potentially change the outcome of your tan. Do not be alarmed when you see the cosmetic bronzer washing off. This is normal and does not affect your tan.Once the tan has fully developed (24 hours), you can begin using a body wash that does not contain sulfates (SLS or SLES), mineral oil or petroleum (avoid bar soaps, Dove, Dial, Olay, CeraVe, etc.). This is important because using products that are not pH balanced could result in a lighter tan that does not last (acidic skin) or a tan that turns golden or orange (alkaline skin). If you need assistance in selecting products, Soleil offers pH balanced body washes and moisturizers made specifically for spray tans. While in the shower, avoid scrubbing and when toweling off pat dry instead of rubbing. Use a sharp, clean razor when shaving. We recommend using hair conditioner in place of shaving cream.Massages and pedicures must be avoided. Products used during services will break down your tan.Avoid long hot showers, baths and hot tubs. Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize! It is imperative that you moisturize with a spray tan friendly lotion (non petroleum based) at least two times daily. This will slow down your skin’s natural cell turnover and will ensure an even, flawless fade. Moisturizers, body butters and tan extenders are highly recommended to ensure best results. You must wear sunscreen when outdoors. Avoid all spray sunscreens. Soleil offers a specific sunscreen formulated for spray tans.Spray tans can last anywhere from 5-10 days depending on your skin type and how diligently you follow the Post Tan Care recommendations. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Soleil Airbrush Tanning.
